Our exceptional kindergarten and preschool program provides every opportunity to prepare your child for a positive start to their schooling years. Here, our educators strike a balance between child-initiated and teacher-led activities.
While still focusing on attentive care and play-based learning, our educators will foster your child’s natural desire to engage with educational programs for life. We deliver a School Readiness program that specialises in allowing your child to slowly adapt to the new school environment socially, emotionally and mentally before they even arrive. This program teaches the children a variety of literacy and numeracy skills, including how to write their names, identification of simple numbers and shapes, recognition skills, such as identifying their school bags, and a range of communications skills, tools and tactics.
We provide an individualised folder displaying their literacy, numeracy development as well as notable learning and crafts. They also engage in a workbook which develops their fine motor skills and persistence at various tasks and activities. The children also engage in 15 minutes of “Reading egg” and “Math seeds” in our Technology room, which develops their language, numeracy, fine motor and social and emotional development.
When the time comes, your child will be ready to spread their wings and fly.
Play and Learning to Socialise is a 10-session social skills program that teaches the children about greeting others, listening, sharing, taking turns, dealing with feelings of fear, sadness and anger, and solving problems. PALS Social Skills Program teaches children constructive ways to solve problems that arise in social situations.
Excursions and Incursions
At Henley, we provide opportunities for children to interact with diverse groups of people. This Includes our pen-pal system and visits with the Local Nursing Home. Aboriginal incursions, Police and ambulance visits, Healthy Harold, Wood working experiences and Jiu Jitsu classes are just some of the experiences the children encounter through the year. Not only does this involve our community but widens the knowledge of our children about the world around them.
Our on-centre Library provides the children to learn skills and role-play about public libraries. They engage by using inside voices, selecting books according to different themes and sitting down to read their books. We also give the children opportunity to borrow books by using their own library cards. This experience not only develops the children’s literacy skills, but also teaches them to appreciate books while having fun in a social setting.
