Our exceptional preschool program provides every opportunity to prepare your child for a positive start to their schooling years. Here, our educators strike a balance between child-initiated and teacher-led activities.
While still focusing on attentive care and play-based learning, our educators will foster your child’s natural desire to engage with educational programs for life. We deliver a School Readiness program that specialises in allowing your child to slowly adapt to the new school environment socially, emotionally and mentally before they even arrive. This program teaches the children a variety of literacy and numeracy skills, including how to write their names, identification of simple numbers and shapes, recognition skills, such as identifying their school bags, and a range of communications skills, tools and tactics.
We provide an individualised folder displaying their literacy, numeracy development as well as notable learning and crafts. They also engage in a workbook which develops their fine motor skills and persistence at various tasks and activities. The children also engage in 15 minutes of “Reading egg” and “Math seeds” in our Technology room, which develops their language, numeracy, fine motor and social and emotional development.
When the time comes, your child will be ready to spread their wings and fly.
Play and Learning to Socialise is a 10-session social skills program that teaches the children about greeting others, listening, sharing, taking turns, dealing with feelings of fear, sadness and anger, and solving problems. PALS Program teaches children constructive ways to solve problems that arise in social situations.
Excursions and Incursions
At Henley, we provide opportunities for children to interact with diverse groups of people. This Includes our pen-pal system and visits with the Local Nursing Home, Ashburn House. We also hold regular Aboriginal incursions, Police, Fire and Ambulance visits, Healthy Harold, Wood working experiences with a local builder and Jiu Jitsu classes. Not only does this involve our community but widens the knowledge of our children about the world around them.
Our on-centre Library provides the children to learn skills, responsibility and imitate the public library experience. They engage by using inside voices, selecting books according to different themes and sitting down to read their books independently. Our children are also encouraged to borrow books by using their own library cards. This experience not only develops the children’s literacy skills, but also teaches them to appreciate books, care for belongings and take responsibility in a social setting.
As a centre we have a high focus on Mindfulness education.
Our Yoga Room provides a tranquil environment for our children to relax and unwind. In this area our children enjoy multiple Yoga classes throughout the week in small groups. This develops body awareness, builds concentration, strength, balance and flexibility while learning to be conscious and aware of their surroundings.
Our Music classes happen 3 times a week with a qualified music teacher where the children learn all about sounds, tempo and rhythm in small and large groups. Our school leavers also learn a variety of instruments such as Piano and Xylophone.
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths in our specially designed STEAM area provides the children a chance to explore with their senses and learn about the world around them. STEAM also develops the children’s fine motor skills and language as they communicate with each other about what they observe, fostering what we call ‘lifelong learners’.
Reading Eggs & Maths Seeds
In our Tech Room; we provide smart-board and Ipad access where our children participate in tech Classes designed to help them understand mathematical and language skills through a fun, supportive and interactive lesson.
Each year our children participate in our Annual Athletics Carnival which is an excursion to the local sports oval to compete in various athletic races such as Running Races, Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course with mini games including traditional aboriginal games, egg and spoon and sack races. Not only is this a great way for the children to get active, they love seeing their parents and teachers join in too!
With our Highly qualified in-house chef; our children participate in Junior Masterchef Classes where they learn about cooking through hands on, fun engaging classes.
Public Speaking Classes
In the preschool we provide the children opportunities to develop their self confidence and public speaking through weekly news times in front of small groups and through our special media classes such as “The Henley News” and “Mandarin Lessons with Anthony”.
Flipgrid provides children with the opportunity to connect and engage with their teachers and peers through a video discussion platform on the days they do not attend preschool and strengthens our educators and teacher partnerships with families. Flipgrid’s interactive, 21st Century learning approach is also a lot of fun!
